The LDL Educational Resource Foundation was founded in 1993 by three Glen Rose Elementary School teachers (Liz Sherrell, Dorothy Gibbs, and Leta Yocham) who sought to fulfill a need in their community by assisting in providing health care and education to the families in Somervell County. A year later, Friends of Dinosaur Valley State Park Gift Shop was opened to fulfill the environmental commitment to the LDL foundation.

The LDL foundation has donated over $1,000,000 worth of support to Dinosaur Valley State Park during the past 23 years. The proceeds of every purchase at the gift shop benefits Dinosaur Valley State Park in their efforts to provide ongoing environmental education.

Some of the projects that have been funded by LDL are:

Funding for new interpretive signs throughout Dinosaur Valley State Park totaling $45,000
New equipment for the park, including a John Deere tractor and Gator
Updates and repairs to the Ranger’s residences within the park
Repairs for equipment and park structures
Funding for the Dinosaur Valley State Park App, the first app for any Texas State Park
The donation of and the custom paint job for an interpretive trailer
Interpretation supplies for National Fossil Day, Christmas in the Park, Haunted Hike, and Easter Egg Hunt
Funding for seasonal positions
The playground equipment in the day use area
